Listen to this: NPR’s Jazz at Newport

by Rachel Cantrell on August 8, 2009

If you’re really into listening to new ideas in jazz, then go check out NPR’s Jazz at Newport this weekend (August 8-9) to listen to live webcasts of musicians like Hiromi Uehara, Esperanza Spalding, and Tony Bennett.

Currently I’m listening to the Vijay Iyer Trio, which is super interesting so far. Supposedly the pianist in this group is self-taught, which is really hard to believe.

If you aren’t able to listen to these live webcasts this weekend, don’t be disappointed — you can listen to all of them, including Newport Jazz feeds from past years (be sure to check out Herbie Hancock’s webcast from 2008), right here.

I’m a huge fan of Cedar Walton, so I’m going to stick around for his live webcast. Happy listening!
